Capitalism Over Socialism - Ayn Rand Was Right in Atlas Shrugged

Capitalism is the way forward and it is why America has succeeded, unfortunately we are not practicing the ideal of capitalism, but rather the pre-forewarned mistakes of crony capitalism where big business and big government prostitute the laws and regulations to serve the will of a few in power. That my friends, is not free-market capitalism, it is a manipulation of the very principles which ensure productivity and prosperity of such a system.

We hardly need Ayn Rand or Adam Smith to warn of us of such things, we hardly need to live out a movie or a novel here in the United States, as it should be inherently obvious that favoritism or cronyism is unfair, unjust, and counter to everything a free-society stands for. And yet, that's what we are doing now with the way we've set up our laws and regulations, as those in power choose the winners and losers in the marketplace. Should we really be so surprised they keep choosing amongst themselves?

As these folks manipulate our system, bend the rules, and work to control, they often chastise capitalism as the culprit, but it's not, and we are not practicing free-market capitalism anyway, we are practicing a purposely distorted version of the most insidious kind. Still, our leaders move us towards Socialism as an answer to keep the masses happy, as they channel more of the flows of wealth into their own coffers. The problem isn't with capitalism, it's that we keep moving further away from it, towards socialism.

There are so many quotes as to the damage caused to the human condition in a socialist society, that it's hard to choose the right one for this article to make my point. Indeed there are so many points to make why socialism doesn't work, that it's really difficult to just choose one idea to enlighten the masses. Perhaps this is why folks get confused when political leaders tout the socio-economic concept as the progressive way forward.

A few years ago, there was a Football player on TV and he said; "Capitalism is where a few people are rich, and Socialism is when everyone is rich," and this was his reason in voting for the then Junior Senator of Illinois. The reality is that Socialism typically results in a failing state where a tiny, tiny number of people hold all the wealth and the masses are destitute, that's been the historical record. Those nations which continue on the course, well their societies and eventually their civilizations crumble into the abyss.

It's too bad that humans living in such a great nation as the United States cannot see the reality of what's going on. Indeed, I will leave you with that thought and recommend that you read or go see the movie Atlas Shrugged.
